Temporary Resident Permits

A temporary resident permit (TRP), often confused with a temporary resident visa or visitor visa, allows a person to obtain a study permit, work permit, or visitor visa even though they don’t fulfill all of the requirements to obtain one.

An application for a temporary resident permit will accept more holistic arguments about why a study permit, visitor visa, or work permit should be granted. The arguments permitted to be used are similar to the ones for a Humanitarian and Compassionate Grounds Application. There is a great amount of discretion on the immigration officer’s part to evaluate TRP applications so it is important to be able to anticipate

TRPs are generally granted for a period of one to five years.
